When a second opinion is worth it

• You were told you need extensive work and you are not sure why
• Two offices recommended very different plans
• You feel rushed or unclear about urgency
• You want someone to confirm that a smaller option is enough

Wanting a second look does not mean the first dentist was wrong. It means the decision is big enough to deserve another set of eyes.

What I cover in a second opinion visit

Diagnosis. What I see on exam and imaging, in plain language.

Urgency. What should be treated soon, what can wait, and what I would monitor.

Options. Including less invasive paths when they still work, and when I would not recommend a procedure.

Written estimate. What treatment would cost here, with benefits verified when you have a PPO plan.

I use digital X-rays and a 3D scan when they add clarity. If your previous office will share images, bring them or have them sent. That saves duplicate radiation when the films are usable.

What I will not do

I will not pressure you to start the same day. I will not invent urgency to fill a schedule. If I agree with the first plan, I will say so. If I disagree, I will explain why with specifics, not slogans.

Patients sometimes come in after another clinic said they needed Invisalign or a large cosmetic plan. Sometimes that is correct. Sometimes the problem is smaller. The point of the visit is to sort that carefully.

How to prepare

• Bring or transfer recent X-rays if you have them
• Bring the written treatment plan or notes from the first office if you have them
• Write down the questions you still cannot answer
• Know your insurance card details so we can verify benefits

You do not need to become a patient to get clarity. Many people use a second opinion to decide whether to proceed elsewhere.
