An emergency visit here is not a rushed version of a cleaning. It is a different appointment with one goal: get you out of pain today and make the next decision clear.
Call first. Here’s what happens.
When you call, our front desk asks what happened and tells you what to do before you arrive. Then we get you in as soon as we can.
Once you’re here:
- Quick check-in, then straight back. You can fill out forms on your phone before you arrive.
- Pain relief comes first. If you are hurting, gentle numbing happens before anything else, then a focused exam and an X-ray of the problem area.
- Fix what can be fixed today. Many emergencies get definitive or temporary treatment in the same visit: a filling, a recemented crown, a smoothed edge, or help with an infection.
- A clear next step. You leave knowing what happens next, when, and what it will cost.

- Abscess, gum swelling, or a bad taste that will not go away
You do not need to be an existing patient. We see new patients for emergencies often, and many of them stay.
Price before treatment
Before any treatment, we explain what we found, what the options are, and what each costs. Nothing starts until you say so. Payment plans are available. The emergency exam and X-ray are covered by most PPO plans.
Comfort still matters when you’re in pain
Gentle numbing comes first. Blankets, Netflix, and Bose Frames are there if the sound of the office is too much. We show you the picture on screen so you understand what is going on before we talk options. We also check on you the next day with a call or text.
When to go to the ER first
Call us in the morning for most dental problems. Go to the nearest emergency room first if you have:
- Bleeding that will not stop after 15 minutes of pressure
- Swelling that makes breathing or swallowing hard
- A possible broken jaw or a head injury
- High fever with facial swelling
Hoag Hospital Irvine is about 8 minutes from our office. The ER handles the medical side. We handle the tooth once you are stable.
